Discounted Theater Tickets

212Access August 21, 2012 1

Most New Yorkers think of TKTS when it comes to theater discounts, but did you know there are lotteries that could get you front row seats of popular shows for as little as $26.50?

I first heard about these discounted lottery tickets when Wicked toured Arizona a few years ago. Buzz quickly spread around the campus for a lottery that offered ridiculously affordable tickets. All I had to do was go to the theater at a designated time, write my name on a small scrap of paper, place it in a box and wait.

A limited number of seats were put aside each day for a few lucky lottery winners. I didn’t win, but I continue to enter ticket lotteries to this day.

Here’s a list of how to apply for these lotteries in New York, along with details on which Broadway shows offer lotteries, rush tickets and standing room only tickets.
