Best Margaritas in NYC

Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner, which means New Yorkers will get the sudden urge to embrace margaritas. Of course, a good margarita takes talent. The bartenders need to know how to make it sweet but not sour. Salty with not too much lime. And of course strong. Here is the picks for the best places to drink margaritas on Cinco de Mayo.

1) Rodeo Bar & Grill – 375 Third Avenue at 28th Street and Park Avenue South.

We like strong and cheap and this bar is known for strong and cheap margaritas. They also offer lime, melon and prickly pear flavor margaritas.

2) Tortilla Flats – 767 Washington Street

You haven’t visited New York City until you’ve had a margarita here. It’s a place reserved for locals and we know how locals like to drink. Tortilla Flats will likely be packed on Cinco de Mayo, but if you can handle loud New Yorkers, it will be worth the fight to the bar for a margarita.

3) Iguana Café – 240 w. 54th Street

A large number of people packed into a tight bar drinking margaritas. ‘Nuff said.

4) Dos Caminos in Soho – 475 West Broadway at Houston

This is one of the few Mexican restaurants that has outdoor space so you can enjoy a smooth margarita on a patio. Let’s hope it’s not raining on Cinco de Mayo.

5) Rosa Mexicano – 1063 First Avenue at 58th Street

It’s always fun watching your coworkers get loaded on margaritas. This place is close enough to Midtown to meander over after work. The flavored margaritas will appease even the most sensitive and prudish palettes.

6) El Rio Grande – 160 East 30th Street

This place gets packed and not just on Cinco de Mayo. Bartenders make margaritas in large batches that make you think this is imported from China. After 3 of these, you might think you are in China after sipping these margaritas.

7) Rancho – 570 Amsterdam at 88th Street

If you live on the Upper West Side, you’re in luck. You don’t need to travel all the way uptown after drinking margaritas. There is one in your neighborhood that will just as easily close the deal.

8) Dos Caminos in Midtown – 825 Third Avenue

This location is not as lively as the Soho location but their margaritas are just as good. If you’re up for a table and in a more chill mood (hopefully not on Cinco de Mayo), then try out this spot.

9) Agave – 140 Seventh Avenue

If you’re looking for a laid-back spot to relax with a margarita (what? Does that exist?) Agave is a good spot for margaritas. Specialities include passion fruit margaritas and a Sex in the City twist on margaritas, called Tequila Cosmos.

10) Dos Caminos on Park– 373 Park Avenue South

This place is a little too rich for my blood. (I’m a writer afterall. I don’t get paid. I do this for the glory). But it does have a good-looking crowd. Add a little tequila and you just might be talking to a super model.
